OUR STORY
Hawaiian Kine Kards is a family business owned and operated by two sisters, Naheani and Nicole, and their mom, Skippy. But, it all started long before the three of them. Shortly after WWII, Frank Turek (Grandpa to Naheani and Nicole) began as a beach bum whipping out caricatures and sketches for Waikiki tourist. This recognition landed him an opportunity to do free lance work for some of the major textile companies designing Aloha Shirts. He worked with Surf Line, Liberty House, Hawaiian Holiday, Jams, Pacific Isle, Hawaiian Casuals, Sears, Penny’s, Hawaii, Maluna, Duke Kahanamoku and Diamond Head, among others. Many of his designs are recognized worldwide and have come to be our favorite vintage Aloha Shirts like: Primo Beer, Makaha Surf Championship, and Surf Hawaii.
Meanwhile, he was pursuing an art career on his own designing custom greeting cards. This soon led to creating stickers and sometime in the early 60’s Hawaiian Kine Kards began with all original and hand-drawn popular Hawaii designs.
Since Frank passed in 2007, days before his 83rd birthday, his daughter and 2 granddaughters have continued this family legacy. They strive to keep true to their roots producing the classic designs, signature to Hawaii, and recognized worldwide. They continue to come up with new designs and plan on expanding to nearby surf cultures. Nicole, Skippy & Naheani |
